LANTRA Temporary Traffic Management – Basic Course Course Overview This half-day introductory course is designed for individuals who are new to the temporary traffic management (TTM) industry. It provides essential foundational knowledge to begin working safely and effectively in this field. ⸻ Who Should Attend This course is ideal for: • Individuals starting work in the temporary traffic management sector • Those who do not currently hold a valid NHSS 12ABC registration card ⸻ Entry Requirements There are no formal prerequisites for this course. ⸻ Course Aim To equip delegates with the fundamental knowledge and awareness required to commence work within the temporary traffic management industry. ⸻ Learning Objectives By the end of the course, participants will: • Understand the relevant codes of practice and supporting documentation • Be familiar with Sector Schemes and the QA (Quality Assurance) process, including NHSS documents • Recognise different road types within the UK road network and their associated NHSS classifications • Identify classifications of road users (e.g. pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders) • Understand key terminology used in the TTM industry • Be aware of the qualification pathway to become an operative and progress to supervisor level • Understand basic health and safety principles, including risk assessments and method statements • Recognise the range and purpose of TTM equipment • Understand the concept and layout of safety zones • Know the requirements for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Be familiar with HSE CIS53 guidance for safely crossing the carriageway • Identify various vehicles used in TTM and their applications • Understand the working environment and site access protocols • Recognise the importance of site maintenance • Be aware of procedures for managing accidents and emergencies in the work area ⸻ Course Content • Introduction to Quality Assurance and NHSS 12 • Industry Terminology • Health and Safety Fundamentals • Temporary Traffic Management Equipment • Safety Zones and Principles of Site Safety • Basic Site Practices • Maintaining a Closure ⸻ Assessment There is no formal assessment for this course.
