Duration: ½ Day Delivery Method: Classroom Recognised By: National Highways, Transport Scotland, Welsh Assembly Government, and Transport NI — for use on motorways and high-speed dual carriageways. ⸻ Course Overview This practical, half-day course is designed for individuals looking to become certified Gate Persons and Airlock Installers/Operatives. It provides essential knowledge and awareness to safely manage access points and control incursions within high-speed roadworks environments. ⸻ Who Should Attend? This course is ideal for anyone responsible for managing access points on temporary traffic management (TTM) sites, particularly those working on motorways and high-speed roads. ⸻ Prerequisites Learners must have completed the Temporary Traffic Management Basic Course (TTMBC) if they are new to the industry or do not hold a current NHSS 12ABCD TTM skills registration card or certificate (excluding M7). ⸻ What You’ll Learn By the end of the course, participants will: Be aware of: • Risks during airlock operations • Plant and vehicle interface hazards • Safe working procedures and minimum industry standards • The use of technology to manage and prevent incursions Understand: • The equipment used to create gates and airlocks • The role and responsibilities of a Gate Person • Risks associated with the position • Current industry guidance relating to airlock systems ⸻ Course Content • Safety and risk management • Airlock requirements and signage layouts • Installation sequence of airlock systems • Safe operation of airlocks • Managing multiple entry points with a single crew • Procedures for handling incidents and incursions • Deactivation and removal of airlocks
